Naturally the cinema is the most popular form of entertainment with universal appeal. With the advent of the colour television and the video, the cinema has come into our drawing room.
Because of the appeal to the eye as well as ear, colours, music, songs, dances, powerful story, trick photography and the art of histrionics, films have become a very powerful medium of mass, communication and entertainment. They can be used to provide education and healthy entertainment to the masses.
History, geography, science, arts, crafts and many other subjects, skills and techniques can be taught through films. Films can serve as an effective medium of demonstration also. Learning through films is a great fun. Moreover, a film can reach millions of people at a time-a thing no teacher can do.
Films can be used to educate people about new products, processes and development activities. They can be used to arouse people's interest in various development projects and secure their co-operation and active participation in them. Charmed and deceived by the glamor of films, young and immature" people become film-addicts and fans of heroes and heroines. No wonder we find a film actor or an actress becoming a member of parliament or a minister or chief minister or even the president of a country.
Excessive film viewing becomes habit-forming, and is harmful to eyes and health. The viewer wants to escape from the real world and live in the world of make-believe.

Doctor Who Audio Collection
If you live in 1 of the mayor English speaking countries chances are it will have been difficult for you to of not, at least, heard of the Sci-Fi legend DW! Now that Doctor Who is back on television since 05 after it's 15yr pause the show has gotten very popular again, so mush so in fact that even the Science fiction channel has taken an interest in the television show.
Thanks to the new show Dr. Who is now officially the longest running Science fiction serial ever with the 1st episode transmitted by the BBC on November the twenty third 1963, an episode in which the Doctor and his comrades voyaged back one hundred thousand years into Earth’s past to help some somewhat stupid cavemen so that they could discover fire. The 2nd longest running Sci-Fi series is Star Trek which began back in 1966, but does not currently have any new episodes being produced.
With the great success of Doctor Who, the BBC started making Doctor Who Audio back in the mid 70s for cassette and LP. When it all started the BBC only made soundtracks from the original serial & then had the Doctors of the time add some binding narration to unify the dialog for the listener. It wasn't long before the BBC decided to take the audio releases to the next level by releasing audio book episodes only for Audiobook release.
To add to this the BBC began producing radio episodes, again with past Drs who had played in the series, these episodes were also made available in Audio Book format. Also many of the lost shows have been re created by their original Doctors in the Audio format making them finally available to the general public once more. Currently the BBC's DW Audiobook collection has over 50 titles all available in quality Digital format at a reduced download price! There exist Audios from the very 1st serial all the way up to the most recent series with David Tennent and even Sarah Jane and Torchwood Audio.
One of the really good things about DW Audios is that they provide us the freedom to listen to our favorite shows anywhere we please with the use of the modern mp3 player. Audiobooks help us to obtain more out of our increasingly busier days, as we can easily listen to them while doing other things like working out, house work, driving, and other activities that permit multitasking. Also an important factor about audio titles is that they are often narrated by their original actors, which really adds to the whole experience.
The way things stand right now it looks like Dr. Who and its spin-off show torchwood and the Sarah Jane adventures are doing extremely well so things look good for us to be able to be entertained by them for a number of years to come.

Alternatives to Cable TV

I've been itching to get away from Comcast for a long time. The issue is they suck you in with their packages that include telepone, hi speed internet, and cable TV service. When customers try to disconnect one of these, you lose the savings of the bundle.
But the cable television service just needs to go, as the service and quality is well below par. With so much talk today about hi def, there just wasn't much of that with Comcast. So I started doing a little research on who else was available in my area.
I am fortunate to be one of the individuals who have a couple of options. Unlike many people who can only pick from just the cable company or dish television, I have a third choice in my region. The old telephone company in this neighborhood has been altering the telephone network. Now there is another player with U-verse from AT&T.
That doesn't of course mean I won't have similar issues. It would put someone in the same situation as with the cable television company, because telephone company want me to package their television service with high speed and voice service. If the service is good, customers will be pleased. But if its not you are in the same circumstance that I'm in now with the cable operator.
The reviews I found on the internet are fairly good on telecom television service. Because it is brand new, there is always a risk with a service like this, and some folks share their bad reviews. Those reviews are the quite amusing, simply for the reason people make the decision to write a dissertation on their bad experience and share it on the world wide web. Unhappy customers badmouth the company like it is some huge conspiracy to screw the customer, like the corporation does not want our money!
Another option I'm looking into is of course satellite TV. Because we have six television viewers in our house, we have subscribed in the past to a premium TV package. The satellite companies are fairly comparable, as the Premier package by DirecTV and the America's Everything Pak by Dish Network are both right around $100 a month. Sure that's fairly pricey for pay television, but if you make the comparison with taking your family to supper and a show, it really isn't all that much.
